Conduit: Ares

 ARES 

Ares is the Greek god of war. He is often depicted as being a bit of a spoilt brat and cowardly. Burly and strong. He is the son of Zeus and Hera, and is also said to be furious and violent. 

I am not talking about my own worship with Ares, though you could argue it plays a part in why I showed him in such a way. 

  Within Conduit, Ares is described as having flaming scarlett red hair that falls down his back. Golden eyes that turn red when is in blood lust. He is scarred and burly, but he is not furious. He is not always angry. He has his moments, but he will never shy away from a fight. Even if he loses. His primary love interest is Aphrodite. He has another love interest in the book, which makes me cringe. 

No, he is not the end game for the character. 

   In the previous post about Conduit, I mentioned that gods do not have morals. Should have said it is not the same as mortal morals. However, I said Ares was a bit different. This is in relation to the myth with his daughter Alcippe. Who is she? She was his mortal daughter who was raped by Poseidon's son, and Ares killed said son. He was later acquitted of murder. 

  Why is this important in the book? Both  Izzy and Mols are rape victims. Ares in the book becomes a teacher and teaches them how to not to be powerless, or at least not let anyone take what they want aagin. He teaches them boundaries and how to fight. Ares in the book is usually how he is depicted in media. 

    He is honourable and does not just fight anyone who tries to start a fight with him. He actually walks away and pretty says: "You are not worth my time." He actively tries to calm down Mols when she is about to lose her temper. He is a good who feels deeply and is deeply affected by what he considers honour. He does not rape mortals. If you say no, he puts his hands up and goes: Alright. 

   it was really fun to write Ares in this way. I felt it gave him a new spin of life that was sorely needed. I have never enjoyed depictions of him being an angry violent god. Especially, when he is one of the few gods who does not rape anyone. 

   Yes, he is a main character.
